How it all began ?

Recently Microsoft rolled out a preview of it's new Outlook.com(Web Version) to selected customers across the globe. The new User Interface looks pretty slick with lots of new features.

But a major drawback was the lack of Desktop Notifications for new Unread Emails. To mitigate this common issue, previously many customers(for the old Outlook.com) depended on Browser Extensions and Add-ins but with the release of the new Outlook.com Preview, all of the Extensions have stopped working. 

Thus the plan was to come up with a solution that would allow customers to get real-time notifications on new unread emails with focus on security and flexibility of App. Unlike other Extensions or Add-ins, this Chrome Packaged App uses the secure Open Authorization 2 to login to your Outlook.com Account and uses the Outlook.com Mail APIs(v2) to interact with your inbox.

This new Chrome Packaged App will only work for the new Outlook.com Account(s). If you're still on the older version then you'll have to wait for the new rollout which is happening this March 2016.
